I am encouraging any and all of you to get involved with the Austin Comprehensive Plan. While we have certainly been busy over the past few years working with the City and ROMA on the Downtown Austin Plan (DAP), much of what needs to be discussed will be covered in the Comprehensive Plan that will pair will with the DAP. Let me first differentiate the two: The Comprehensice Plan is a 30,000 foot view of the entire city; The DAP is a 5,000 foot view of downtown. There is much to do in downtown and Austin and certainly we need to look at both. Most importanlty, however, we need the voices of downtown to be heard! To learn more about the Comprehensive Plan, check out their website, get their emails, or follow them on facebook and Twitter. There plenty of meetings to attend, or host your own meeting in a box. Speaking of meetings, I will be attending a meeting on downtown transportation and the Plan Tuesday, Nov 10th at 7:30am - come meet me at St. David's and let's chat about how to make Austin better. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 12, 2009 Contact: David Spradling, Austin Public Library, (512) 974-7528 Fax: (512) 974-7442
How Do You Envision Austin’s New Central Library? Share Your Ideas at Public Input Meetings this October and November
The Austin Public Library Commission invites the Austin community to attend Public Input Meetings for the new Central Library with the architectural team of Lake | Flato Architects and Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott. The goal of this process is to capture the vision, values, and ideas of the community. Your input is crucial to ensure that the new Central Library meets your needs. The following five Public Input Meetings have been scheduled to provide an opportunity for citizens to meet the design team and to offer input.
Tuesday, October 27 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Manchaca Road Branch, 5500 Manchaca Rd. Wednesday, October 28 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Ruiz Branch, 1600 Grove Blvd. Thursday, October 29 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. City Hall/Council Chambers, 301 W. Second St. Tuesday, November 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Carver Branch, 1161 Angelina St. Thursday, November 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. North Village Branch, 2505 Steck Ave. (Plan your route using Capital Metro's Trip Planner.) If you are unable to attend these Public Input Meetings, you may submit suggestions online. New Central Library suggestion cards will also be available at all Austin Public Library locations and at City Hall.
Once the public input is collected and sorted, recurring themes will be identified as priorities. These priorities will be considered as the design is developed. The design team will share these priorities and the designs with the Library Commission and the City Council at the project’s approval milestones.
The tentative schedule for the new Central Library project is as follows:

Subject: Comp Plan Thank You! and next steps
Hello,
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Comprehensive Plan Kick-Off Open House last Monday! We had good turnout, with more than 230 members of the public, plus another 40 kids from Austin Recreation Centers. Hopefully everyone had a good time and is energized to get to work putting a plan together for Austin's future.
With that in mind, four short announcements:
First, for anyone who couldn't make it, we have a survey available online: www.cityofaustin.org/compplan/survey.htm
It mirrors the questions we asked at the Open House. Please forward this far and wide. Copies of the survey will also be available at Austin libraries by Friday (October 23). Second, the results of the Open House questions are available at the omp Plan website: www.cityofaustin.org/compplan/ If you take a look, you'll see we're still not reaching all of Austin -- the survey link above is a crucial tool to help us correct this, so please send it around. Third, we also have on the Comp Plan website the dates and locations of he six Community Forum meetings the week of November 9 (the central Austin daytime meeting location is still being finalized). Last, if you're hearing about the Comp Plan for the first time, please visit our website and join our listserv to get these notices directly!
Thanks again, Greg Claxton Associate Planner
