The Austin FOOD & WINE Festival returns April 25-27 to Butler Park (1000 Barton Springs Rd., Austin, TX  78704) to spoil your palate with a handful of global and nationally renowned talent.

This 2-day weekend in the culinary capital is the epitome of high spirits, with a packed schedule of hands-on grilling demos, up-close tastings with top chefs and sommeliers, and more interactive demos and panels.

And the nightlife? Served. Events like the Rock Your Taco Showdown and The Taste Of Texas keep the music going and the libations flowing.

DANA Board Tours Capital Studios – Affordable Housing in Downtown Austin

Members of the DANA Board were invited to a hard hat tour of the new affordable housing project in downtown Austin, Capital Studios.

Capital Studios will have 135 efficiency apartments, with rents between $400-$600 (all bills paid), and will be located at the SW corner of  the intersection at 11th and Trinity.

In 2012, DANA wrote a letter of support to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for the Capital Studios project.

Saturday, March 1, 2014 – 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Texas Independence Day 5K Run & Parade

10th Annual Texas Independence Day 5K Run coursing through downtown Austin to celebrate Texas Independence, raising money for the Celebrate Texas scholarship fund. Congress Ave. including Ann Richards Bridge closed between Barton Springs & 11th Street, 11th Street closed between Lavaca & Brazos. Partial closures Cesar Chavez – 11th Street between Colorado & Brazos. Closures will not affect the City Hall parking garage entrance/exit.

Saturday, March 1, 2014 – 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 2nd Street Soundcheck

The 2ND Street District is proud to host 2ND Street Soundcheck for its third year! Join us for a full day of music, and local food, cold drinks, souvenirs, and sweet treats from more than 20 food vendors, restaurants and brands – all raising awareness and funds for Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease. 2nd Street closed between San Antonio & Colorado. Alternative Routes for Traffic: North/South: Colorado Street, Lavaca Street, Guadalupe Street – East/West: Cesar Chavez Street, 3rd Street to 11th Street. Closures will not affect the City Hall parking garage entrance/exit.

Sunday, March 2, 2014 – 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Zilker Kite Festival

Zilker Kite Festival is one of Austin’s best-known annual events. Held on the first Sunday of March, it is the kick-off to the hundreds of springtime activities in Austin. Everyone is welcome to attend (pets too!). There is no admission to attend or to participate in the contest. Most folks come out to see the spectacular sight of hundreds of kites in the sky and to enjoy a spring day in the park. Barton Springs Rd. closed between Columbus Dr. and Robert E. Lee, Stratford Dr. closed between Paige Dr. and Paige Dr. Zilker Park parking lot: Once it fills it will remain closed for the rest of the event: Shuttle Services will run from:

State Parking Garage “E” (16th and Colorado St.) –  Burger Center (3200 Jones Road)

  • Shuttle Service to event begins at 9:45 a.m.
  • Shuttle Service to event ends at 3:00 p.m.
  • Shuttle Service first arrival at event at 10:15 a.m.
  • Shuttle Service from event ends at 6:00 p.m.

Please keep in mind during this time that streets in the surrounding area will be more heavily trafficked than usual and parking in the City Hall garage will be at or near capacity throughout.
