On February 12th, renowned urban designer and Walkable City author Jeff Speck will share his vision for a more walkable Austin — and what it will take to get there. Having helped cities across the U.S. revitalize their streets and downtowns, Jeff brings a powerful, practical perspective on how street design shapes urban life.

This talk is a part of a discussion led by Safe Streets Austin and the Congress For the New Urbanism Central Texas about transforming Austin’s one-way streets to two-way, a strategy to restore vitality, safety, and economic life on downtown streets.

All downtown property and business owners, managers, security providers, tenants and residents are encouraged to participate.

📍 The Independent @ 301 West Ave.

Volunteers will meet Saturday, January 10, 2026 outside The Independent (301 West Ave. at 8:45 am, with the clean-up commencing at 9 am. The efforts of the growing group of volunteers is paying off, as the creek throughout the downtown neighborhood is looking cleaner and better. Let’s stay vigilant!

The monthly collaboration continues with APD, the Downtown Austin Alliance (DAA), and the Downtown Austin Community Court to assist with this important initiative.

DANA is seeking nominations for the 2026 board of directors and volunteer committees. Want to make an impact and improve quality of life in downtown Austin? Want to keep the downtown neighborhood social, knowledgeable, and influential?

Time commitments include monthly board meetings and, depending on interest and role:

🍹 Planning Urban Core happy hours
📱 Managing the DANA website, social media, and email communications
🤝 Recruiting members and sponsors
💰 Managing the organization’s finances
⚖️ Developing and championing DANA’s policy positions

Nominate yourself or someone you know who lives downtown and would like to play a leadership role.
